This might sound a silly question but why do some snake produce eggs while some give birth to live snakes?

Doesn't it depend on the environment? If it is too harsh or there are too many temp fluctuations the eggs won't survive. It makes sense for them to have live young. I could be totally wrong though  James |

I agree with James it makes sense for them to adapt to their enviroment. Lots of other animals have done it, look how the rattleless rattle snake adapted.
