Hi Claire I searched the forums as I said and this is a soloution I found
"quote"Well if they get to the your account screen where it says user: offline then the username and password combination is correct so its nothing to do with the username and password, they are fine.
Where the problem lies is the cookie. The browser for some reason is not writing the cookie to the persons temp internet folder. Once PHP-Nuke gets past checking the username and password it then relies on the cookie to verify that the user is loged in.
On the PC that cannot log in go to Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy -> Slide the Bar down to “Accept All Cookies”.
That will defiantly allow the browser to write the cookies, if that doesn’t work then try another browser like Netscape or something. As you have found out its nothing to do with your site really its just settings on the PC "
Try following these instructions to se if it works Good luck Angi

if that doesnt work then Go to
Tools | Internet Options | Privacy | Advanced, Tick the following
[ x ] Override Automatic Cookies Handling [ x ] First-party Cookies [ x ] Third-party Cookies [ x ] Always Allow Session Cookies
That should permit all cookies regardless of the situation. Let me know how that goes
If that doesnt work either then you may need to update youre internet explorer to the newest version.
