When I made our cornsnake vivs in a bank of 3 high x 2 across, I was not aware that heatmats should never be kept inside vivs. Due to Angi reading up on the subject we realised we had a dilema. We couldnt place the heatmats outside the viv, we did not wish to attatch them to a side or roof of vivs, in case the snake somehow got trapped between the viv and heatmat. So we bought platsic carpet protector to put on the whole of the bottom of the viv. This stuff has little "studs" all over the under side so leaving an airspace of a couple of mms between it and the heatmats. We fixed it in place with aquarium sealent. We have since heard of people using tiles and alluminium sheets with beading on the underside for the same purpose. We like the idea of the alluminium sheets and will probably trial one. I know most people making banks of vivs will have considered their heat source requirements when building, but thought that if we didnt think about it enough, then there will be others. That is why we have posted the topic. Im sure we are not the first.
