How we make our vivs cheaply. We buy our glass from a small local glazier who rounds off the edges for us, much cheaper than large firms. We bulk buy locks from www.screwfixdirect.com much cheaper to buy lots than one at a time. We also buy vents in multi packs from B & Q. Build in banks of a few at a time uses less wood. Pop into B&Q every now and then to see if there are any cheap off cuts, which happens frequently. We have found that runners for the glass is cheaper when bought at a local timber merchant. Sealing the viv twice with varnish will give it a longer life, especially if the occupier requires high humidity. Also custom making youre own guards for light/ceramic bulbs from mesh is incredibly cheap and easy. Does anyone else have any moneysaving tips? Angi

Weve just discovered that airvents are half the price of B&Qs if you buy at screw fix. Also if you are only buying 1 or 2 locks then Cornfans website ( www.csftp.co.uk/ ) is the cheapest I can find, as postage and packaging is only £2 as opposed to £6 at screwfix.
