Well as promised here is a pic of my cresty viv. I use potting soil as substrate, I have a waterfall for water and some branches and flexi vine for climbing. My cresty seems to enjoy its life here and always finds a new place to hide! What do you think? James

It loves hiding in that plant on the left hand side. It's always behing one of those leaves. I changed the substrate from moss because I was always losing it! They love to bury themselves in the moss and make me panic!!!

Angi said the same thing to me when we were on MSN! It is only a 12W bulb and barely even gets warm, it isn't very bright but it is good enough for me! It has jumped onto the light a few times and has never showed any ill efects. It doesn't go on there much anyway. Thanks for the kind words.

Heres our viv Jimmy, we just use paper towels for substrate at the moment as its easy to clean out, but we might change to cocofibre. Angi

Just a quick update, I have changed the substrate again back to moss. I found that the cresty was getting mouthguls of soil when it missed crickets. I changed it to moss as I think it looks nicer and there is less chance of ingestion.

Id read about a cresty dying following impaction caused by cocofibre, so I think youve made the right decision. But then, in the wild they have to cope with soil, moss etc. Ive read that live moss is better because there is less chance of ingesting substrate. This is partly why we stick to paper towels, plus you dont really see the bottom of the viv much(in our vivs anyway). A cheaper version of moss is available at garden centres( a fact given to me recently by a friend). Hows the cresties on the new substrate now? Angi

Mine seem to prefer the moss to the soil and spend more time on the bottom. They love burrowing themselves into it and hiding. I have read a few stories about coco-fibre. Ray on Geckoworld watched one of his die from this. Its mouth got clogged up with it and it died of suffocation. I saw mine get a piece of moss in its mouth but as it is long they tread on it and can pull it out. I have never had any trouble with the moss and I don't know why I changed from it anyway. I have almost finished furnishing the new viv and will post pics of it when its done. I am really pleased with it and we have stuck cork bark and hides to the sides and back. I alos got this really nice looking plant and it is looking really good.

Thats sounding pretty good, Jimmy. I like youre idea of sticking cork bark to the sides.
