Well I thought I would give everyone a little update on my cresites as I haven't been on here often because of college work. I have been feeding them fruit of my finger and waxworms by hand (occasionally). I didn't think it was working very well until yesterday night and just now. Yesterday night Pyro (5 month old) took fruit from my finger for the first time and then came up to my hand voluntarily, licked it and walked away. I was so pleased, he had always been very nervous but he seems to be calming down. My other nameless 9 month old is also showing good progress. She is normally more nervous than pyro but just now she actually walked over my hand with now persuasion what so ever! I thought it was worth trying a second time and she did it again! I can't believe it, after all this work it is finally starting to pay off. Well I am going to go now, I've gone on enough but I am so happy so don't be shocked if you get a daily update from now on!!!

Great progress Jimmy. Im really pleased for you. Our male is still really skittish. He runs away all the time, we need to catch him to clean the viv out, but once he has been on my hands for 1 - 2 minutes he calms down and wanders about. I thinks its just going to take some time to settle down. Ive no idea what his previous experiences have been and considering he has lost histail, thenm there is a good chance that he has been stressed, one way or another.

I am just going to keep trying but I'm trying not to stress them out. Although I think they look cool without their tails I think they look better with them. Good luck with yours Angi, I know what you mean about the catching them! It took me 45 mins to catch my female last time. At least with yours there isn't the worry of it dropping its tail! I was trying to be so careful not to catch her tail under the box and she was so fast. Does anyone have any tips on catching nervous cresties for viv maintanance? Any way I'll update you all on what happens tonight, hopefully more good news. Oh and I think I forgot to say, little Pyro is now growing fast. BTW Angi my female is exactly the same size of your Sahara and I thought she was roughly 9 months old so it looks like she is a she! ;D

Does anyone have any tips on catching nervous cresties for viv maintanance? When we move our male Tokay for cleaning, vet trips etc. we take everything big out of the viv. Then slowly follow him with a pet-pal (with the lid off). Eventually we manage to cover him with the pet-pal (so that the top is flat against the viv wall) and he will jump in it. With him safely in the pet-pal, slide a piece of card between the viv and pet-pal, move it to the table and slowly swap the card for the pet-pal lid. I hope that makes sense. I haven't tried it with Cresteds but if it works for Tokays it should work for them. The key is to take it slowly so as not to startle them too much. Hope this helps ;D

Thats what I do with my cresties with a cricket box. I took everything I could out then once it came off a plant I tried to cover it. I was trying to go slowly but without catching her tail. It is difficult but hopefully once she settles down a little it will become easier.

It's probably better using a cricket box with a Crested, as at least it's a bit flexible. We use a pet-pal only because Tokays can have a large bite - lol!!
